Balan S. Nair
Mr. Balan Nair was, prior to his commencement of legal practice in 1985, employed as a Traffic Officer in Lembaga Pelabuhan Klang (LPK). He has vast experience (of some 16 years) in, and knowledge of, port and shipping matters, having worked in operations (i.e. conventional or container traffic), as well as in administration (in particular, in the Secretariat dealing in legal matters). During this period, he had completed his Chartered Institute of Transport examinations and was made a Member. After graduating in law from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, Mr. Balan Nair commenced practicing as lawyer, and has been for 34 years to date. He is an experienced advocate and solicitor and has been recognized as such, and given the status of, a Consultant by the Bar Council. His main area of specialty is civil law, in particular shipping, insurance, competition laws and industrial laws. He now serves in his capacity of Consultant to the firm.
Ong Ewe Lim, Edwin
Mr. Ong, who runs the practice of Messrs Edwin Ong Chambers, is also engaged in civil practice, and is making his mark in shipping and industrial Laws in particular. Having graduated from the National University of Malaysia, he did his pupillage under Mr. Balan Nair in Messrs Seah Balan Ravi & Co before his admission to the bar in 2014, and had completed 1 year as a Legal Assistant there prior to setting up his own practice in 2015. He took the subject of International Trade Law which covers shipping, marine insurance, logistics, INCOTERMS, letter of credit etc. He now serves on Bar Council Shipping and Admiralty Law Committee for the term 2019/2020.
Jessica Lee
Jessica graduated from National University of Malaysia and commenced her pupillage at Messrs Azam-Malek & Soh in 2013. She was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2014. Jessica was retained as an associate in Messrs Azam-Malek & Soh after her pupillage and practiced in family matters and general litigation. Upon joining Messrs Edwin Ong Chambers, Jessica continues to focus her practice in matrimonial laws. She represents clients in both contested and non-contested divorce proceedings. Other areas of practice are general litigation such as bad debts recovery actions, landlord-tenant disputes, probate and letter of administration matters, conveyancing matters, bankruptcy and winding-up actions etc.
